Areni & Khndoghni is Karas’s new red wine. It’s the estate’s first wine made entirely from Armenian grape varieties. The exact percentages are not provided, but the body suggests that there is roughly an eqaul amount of each grape in the blend. It is fermented in steel tanks and bottled without any time in oak.
Tasting Notes: Crimson purple to the rim. The nose is slow to emerge, but ultimately reveals sweet cherry notes. On the palate the fruit is of sour cherries and pomegranate, with mineral notes adding complexity. There are noticeable tannins on the finish. It’s an interesting wine, but it’s not clear that the blend elevates the component parts.
