Description
2014 is the second vintage of the flagship Karas Reserve. It’s a rich, fruit forward wine, with a flavor profile similar to a Napa Rhone blend. It is made from a blend of European grape varietals. For 2014, the Malbec and the Tannat are dropped from the blend, leaving a mix of Syrah, Montepulciano, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Fermented in steel tanks and it aged in a blend of French and Armenian oak barrels for 14 months.
Tasting Notes: The wine is a dark red with violet towards the rim. Dark fruit and herbs on the nose, with the herbal element more pronounced than in the 2013 vintage. On the palate, the plum fruit is nicely married with the vanilla oak flavors and the mineral notes underneath. Another very well balanced wine that shows substantial tannins in the finish suggesting that even more complexity could develop with some bottle age.
