ArmAs is in Aragatsotn Province, roughly a one hour drive north of Yerevan towards Gyumri. The setting is dramatic with beautiful vistas west towards the Araxes river and the Ararat mountains beyond.
ArmAs grows Kharmahyut, Kakhet, Voskehat, Kangun and Rkatsiteli grapes on the property. Areni grapes are purchased from the Vayots Dzor region for their Areni and Reserve Areni wines. The vines were planted in 2007 and the first vintage to be released was 2012.
The modern winery was built to make both wine and brandy. ArmAs uses a mix of French, Italian and Artsakh oak barrels to age their reserve wines. Italian wine-maker Emilio Del Medico was brought in to set the template for ArmAs’s wines and he continues to oversee the wine-making operations.
ArmAs has a beautiful visitors center for wine tastings. Overnight accommodations are available as well. It is best to make an appointment in advance of visiting the winery.
ArmAs has been slow to release new vintages. 2013 remains the primary vintage in the marketplace, with 2014 – 2016 wines still held in bottles or in tanks at the winery.
ArmAs wines won two Medals at the 2017 International Wine Awards and have won multiple Decanter World Wine Awards.
