Karas
Karas is Armenia’s largest commercial winery, located in the Armavir Provence, not far from the main road to Sadararbad. Work on the winery began in 2003 and the first wines were released in 2010.
Owned by the Agribusiness arm of Coporacíon América of Argentina, Karas planted their vineyards primarily with European grape varieties selected to work with Armenian soil and climate. The red grapes are Syrah, Malbec, Tannat, Montepulciano and Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. White wine grapes grown are Chardonnay, Viogner, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat and the Armenian Voskehat and Kangun grapes.
From the beginning Karas has looked to create world-class wines in Armenia. Famous Bordeaux Winemaker Michel Rolland was brought in to develop the process and design for Karas’s wines and Argentinean winemaker Gabriel Rogel oversees the production and blending of each vintage.
Karas wines won 3 medals at the 2017 International Wine Awards.
